Poland Diaries

Moving to Poland for a masters degree has been by far one of the best decisions I have made.

I had little to no knowledge as to what living in Poland was like but the things I read online and saw in videos painted a picture that Poland was a beautiful country. The challenge of moving from Nigeria to Poland where I knew no one bothered everyone around but me. I felt comfortable and enthusiastic about moving thousands of kilometres to study and explore a new environment.

Poland was better than I had read about. I found everything about living here in Poland thrilling. I was open to understanding the culture and not letting any preconceived notion ruin my stay here.

The Wroclaw University of Technology which I attended ranked as the 2nd best technical university in the country, with such a ranking came a very high standard of education. With a combination of laboratory practicals, seminars, assignments, projects I gradually became the well-rounded engineer I had always wanted to be. I was fascinated by the course modules and how teachers in Poland were very open to students and had scheduled student consultation hours in case extra help was needed by students. After 3 extensive semesters of learning, I got my degree, a masters in engineering and also got a job even before graduation.

I was amazed by the standard of living and how much money monthly was enough to cater to all my needs. Being able to get a job even as a student helped me cover my expenses as a full-time student and gain more work experience.

Prior to moving to Poland, I did not enjoy travelling due to the cost of travel and long commute time. My dislike for travelling changed when I decided to get on a train and go on my first trip to Katowice, a city not too far from Wroclaw. After my first trip, I was determined to tour all the cities in Poland. I have only been able to travel to 11 cities due to the pandemic. With each travel, I found out how beautiful Poland is. I take tons of pictures, make travel Vlogs and I always get a postcard from every city I visit. Travelling helps you understand people, see places, know about the history of a place and of course have fun! I still can't say what my favourite city is as every one of them has something that makes them stand out.

Two years ago I moved to Poland and decided to document every phase and lessons learnt and to pass it on to others who like me, are clueless about moving to Poland for studies. Poland has polished me into becoming a well-rounded individual and for that reason, I am always so excited to tell people about Poland.
