Comparison trap

           Comparison Trap

They say a picture is worth a thousand words,  but can we really tell the true story of a thousand words from what we see?  Everything  seems so picture perfect, the wonderful smiles on, the perfect blend of filters,  the snapchat emojis,  the "happy girls are the prettiest " caption,  the beautiful  background, all that leaves us staring at the instagram/facebook post with so much envy wishing we had their lives,  wishing we could be a certain type of way, comparing ourselves with these people.
If only we knew the story behind those smiles, no matter how many perfect pictures are taken, no matter the number of filters they add to it, you can't seem to point out the real truth in the frame, all you are left with is comparing your own life based on the falsehood of what you just stared at, forgetting that the grass is ALWAYS greener on social media.

Now let's look at Leah and  Rachael, I'm sure by now you all know I'm not a fan of the beautiful, young and captivating Rachael. Between these two sisters, the comparison trap was a trap they both constantly fell into. If Leah had Rachael on her social media she would stare at her 1k likes and the how she gave killer poses with her beautiful figure that captivated Jacob and begin to feel bad about herself, Rachael was younger, more beautiful and had found a man willing to work so hard for 14years just for  her hand. Jacob even made it more difficult for Leah, imagine being married to a man rather than him concentrating on making your marriage a bliss, he spends time going through all the stress in the world just to marry another woman whom he doesn't hide the fact that he loves her more than he loves you and she happens to be your beloved younger sister. The kind of inferiority complex Leah had built for herself by not just falling into but dwelling in the comparison trap was huge.
Rachael finally comes into the house as second wive but the tables turn, Leah seems to be the fruitful one, now  it looks as though Leah has a stronger hold on their husband as she now has four sons. Imagine Rachael scrolling through her timeline on IG only to see Leah's uploads of so many pictures of her and the boys, pictures of Jacob carrying the adorable new born baby Judah with Reuben, Simeon and Levi all smiling at the baby. She doesn't only have to deal with living in the same house with this woman but the 200likes Leah had before now have now skyrocketed to 2K likes, everyone seems to be congratulating Leah and her comment section is something else. Rachael  is left in jealousy and envy, now she no longer wants to be the woman a man worships the ground she walks on but  the mother to Jacob's son. She goes demanding to Jacob, " Give me children, or I shall die" (Gen 30:1)!
This tussle goes on and on with both sisters trying to outplay the other that their maids end up being dragged into the " i'm better than you" trap until Rachael's sins catch up with her and she dies during child birth. So funny how all of Jacobs children's names are given from an act of rivalry. We all know that this trap went on to the next generation where  it gets  as severe as  the brothers ganging up to sell their own  brother into slavery.

The comparison trap is the fastest way to tune yourself away from God's specific plan for your life. There's a reason you are at the point you are in life, there is a reason God created you just the way you are, there is a purpose for you and you won’t accomplish that plan by looking at others or flipping through peoples profiles on social media and beginning to get lost in wishful thoughts that drag you into the pit of envy. If the pencil got so carried away by wanting to be like a pen, it wouldn't even realize that its marks were created in such a way that if it made a mistake the eraser will easily wipe its mistakes off for it to start with fresh marks.
Count your blessings and not the blessings of someone. Let God control your life and give Satan no opportunity to discourage you from the purpose God has for you. Know that all you need is Christ. Set your mind at peace by focusing on the Lord.

"Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life."
Galatians 6:4‭-‬5 MSG

  3. This is beautiful girl. I loved how you used that exam from the bible to relate it to our present society, ingenious. Very captivating post too, you're a good writer by the way. I pray we do not get lost in the comparison trap you talked about but that we learn to praise God and find happiness in the little things just like your last post on happiness mentioned.
