Happiness
H a p p i n e s s
Some nights ago I stayed on the phone talking to one of my very good friends, it had been so long we talked, we had been separated by the current happenings in our various lives that we forgot what a proper conversation was. From Graduating to going for NYSC and job haunting, the hustle has been crazy and with all these came a certain level of depression, staying up late at night asking the "where am I headed after service year? " question then passing out and having your nosy family members poking you with the "how far? This one has gotten married o, when is yours? "
Then being faced with your current unemployment status, your late night candle burning CGPA hasn't seemed to do much for you just yet.
Now you find yourself waking up every morning with an ounce of depression, as days turn into months, it now transforms into full-blown depression, nothing seems to be going the way you want it.
So you are stuck reading motivational books, blog posts, listening to motivational spoken words taking notes and paying attention to the things you learn, they seem really easy to do, these authors seem to be hitting it right where it aches but now back to reality you can't really keep up with all the different rules of life you read from the Richard Templer book, you can't follow all the relationship rules from your A-Z shelf of books from "act like a lady, think like a man" to the " secrets of an irresistible woman" and finally the "Waiting and dating", all the different job search websites you had registered on from NGcareers to jobberman and not to forget the countless companies your CV is gracing their mailboxes.
Most times we are focused on what's not going right that we forget to bask in the few tiny little things going well, we stay with friends doing the pity party with our individual shortcomings rather than talk about the few positive things we have going for us, like the catering classes you started, or the makeup skill you acquired and you could make cash off or even the little teaching job you got but you aren't so proud of.
Happiness has suddenly become a luxury we feel we can't afford, it has become something we feel comes with a new job, or an engagement ring or a new phone or whatever. I once read somewhere that Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn, Bought or consumed. But it is a spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.
Happiness is an attitude of finding the tiniest piece of order amongst a truckload of chaos and dissatisfaction.
No matter how long it takes the job will come, the perfect relationships will fall in place, the dreams and goals aligned in your head will kick off but replacing the space of happiness with the unavailability of these things will only take us 6 feet deep to the depths of depression.
The finest Gold is tested through the hottest of fires, the purest diamonds is passed through so much pressure, the smoothest table surface is constantly harshly brushed by many sandpapers.
So don't lose it just yet hold on to him that promises and never fails, the climb is difficult but the top view is amazing.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18 KJV

ReplyDeleteYes David. Thank you as always.
DeleteYou've said it all, I believe if we all let go the pressure we built in our mind in other to prove a point to people and try to live for the day, we can have a course to see the little things... Ride on Bee-worm.
ReplyDeleteExactly.. Well-done paul
DeleteThis is pure motivation...the small things count and it sucks that people are never proud of small wins forgetting that they accumulate to greater things...thanks for the insight
